In October of 2007, StoryCorps came to the New Brunswick Free Public Library to help capture an oral history of New Brunswick. Residents who grew up in New Brunswick shared their stories in the library. During the two-day period, interviewers logged approximately 10 hours of interviews with 14 residents. Their stories are varied and span several decades.
Select audio clips are available below. To listen to the full interviews, please ask at the Reference Desk for the StoryCorps DVDs. These DVDs cannot be taken out of the building, but we invite you to use one of our workstations in the Reference Room. Please note that you should bring your own headphones to listen to the full interviews in the library.
Funding for the StoryCorps program at the Library was provided by Magyar Bank Foundation, the Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission, and the Kiwanis Club of New Brunswick. The library thanks these generous orgaizations, StoryCorps, and our local residents for helping us preserve valuable information about our community. Latino Oral History
The New Brunswick Free Public Library recorded ten oral histories of members of our latino community. Two of our ten recorded histories are available below for listening. Names and identifying information have been omitted where the interviewee requested. Interviews were conducted in February and March of 2024.
This oral history project sought to preserve and promote interest in the local history of New Brunswick’s Latino community. The interviews explored a bit about the life of latinos in New Brunswick.
Interviews were conducted by James Doherty, Maria Martinez, and Gaby Mora. The audio editing was done by Marco Arias. Kim Adams is the archivist.
