New Brunswick Municipal IDs

The New Brunswick Free Public Library will begin issuing Municipal IDs for the City of New Brunswick, NJ, beginning the last week of September 2017.

IDs will be issued by appointment only. To make an appointment, please call the library at 732-745-5108 ext. 25. The library will start accepting appointment requests on September 5: the first day for which appointments can be scheduled will be Tuesday, September 26.

Municipal ID Office Hours
Mondays: Closed
Tuesdays: 10 a.m. - 12 noon & 2:00 - 5 p.m.
Wednesdays: 1:00 - 6 p.m.
Thursdays: 2:00 - 4 p.m. & 6:00 - 9 p.m.
Fridays: 10 a.m. - 12 noon & 2:00 - 5 p.m.
Every other Saturday: 10 a.m. - 12 noon & 2:00 - 5 p.m.

What do I need to apply?

NJ minimum age to apply is 14 years old.

All applicants must meet the validation and verification process using the 6-point system, which requires at least 4 points to prove identity and 2 points to prove residency in New Brunswick.

    IDENTITY
  • Four (4) Points- Identity/Residency
    - U.S. State Driver’s License or Learner’s Permit Photo ID
    - U.S. State Identification Card
  • Three (3) Points- Identity
    - Consular ID Card with photograph
    - U.S. or Foreign Passport
    - U.S. Military Identification Card
    - State Veteran ID with photo
  • Two (2) Points- Identity
    - Proof of a minor enrolled in New Brunswick Public or Private School
    - Prisoner ID Card
    - Birth Certificate (Foreign)

  • RESIDENCY IN NEW BRUNSWICK
  • Two (2) Points- Proof of Residency
    - Utility bill with name and address
    - Cable bill
    - Notarized Residential Lease
  • One (1) Point- Proof of Residency
    - Employment Pay Stub
    - Bank Statement
    - Income Tax filing form (1 year)

All documents must be originals and current, or if expired, said expiration must be two (2) years or less from the date of presentation.
Your privacy is protected: The New Brunswick ID Program will not retain copies of the documents you present to apply for the ID.

Fees
Adult Applicant: $20
Adult Renewal: $10
Seniors, Veterans, & Children: $7
Card Change: $7
Lost, Stolen, or Damaged: $10
Payment by cash or money order only.

The IDs are valid for a term of two (2) years from the date of issuance.

Benefits of the City ID

The New Brunswick Municipal ID verifies that you are a resident of the City of New Brunswick.

The ID will be accepted identification to all city buildings, New Brunswick Public Schools, for the New Brunswick Police Department, and to city sponsored events and/or services.

The ID will also serve as a library card, providing access to the services and materials offered by the New Brunswick Free Public Library.
